If you're a fan of straightforward, video slot fun, then Desert Treasure by SoftSwiss is a game that you should check out. While SoftSwiss gets most of its publicity from the fact that it has one of the best gaming platforms out there today, it also produces some of its own games. While this isn't necessarily the best-looking slot out there, and while it doesn't exactly push the envelope with innovation, it's still enough to give players a decent enough experience -- just don't expect anything groundbreaking.
Format and Layout
This game uses a format that is generally considered a bit of a throwback. It's a video slot with five reels, three rows and nine paylines. You don't see many newer titles with this format, but Desert Treasure is an exception. Coins range from the $0.10 level at the low end to the $1 level at the high end. This lends itself to an overall range of bets per spin that goes from $0.90 to $9. This is not a particularly wide range, and we would have preferred if there were more options overall.
Important Note About Payouts
Something players should get familiar with right away is that some symbols in this game pay with two of a kind or more, some pay with three or more, and some pay with four or more. We don't necessarily agree with the symbols that need at least four of a kind for a payout, but we can appreciate the variety. However, it's easy to get thrown off when you first start out if you aren't aware of what's going on with some of these symbols, especially if you think you got a three of a kind win and it's of a symbol that needs four or more.
Wild Symbol Payouts
The largest regular payout that you can earn in the Desert Treasure slot is for 8,000x, and you earn it with five of the wild woman symbol. This wild does not count for the scatter symbol, but that's pretty normal as far as video slots go. You can also earn a pretty solid 800x win if you get four of a kind of the wild. Players can also pick up 80x for three of the wilds or even 8x for just two of the wilds as this is one of the symbols in this game that you only need two of a kind for a payout.
Scatter Wins, Free Spins and Multipliers
There is one main bonus feature available in this game, and that comes from getting three or more of the scatter symbols on the screen at once. When you do this, you'll pick up 10, 25 or 50 free turns for three, four or five scatter symbols on the screen, respectively. To add more value to these free spins, all winning combinations are hit with a 3x multiplier. This means you get an enormous amount of value packed into one place, which is exactly what players who like high-volatility games like this one like to see.
In terms of the scatter payouts themselves, they are all based on multiples of your entire bet. You can get 400 times your bet for five scatters, which is the same prize as a 3,600x line bet win. Wins of 4x and 40x for three and four wins are also available, and they're nothing to really ignore since they're fairly significant on their own.
Other Wins
There are a variety of other payouts. There are three circle symbols that offer up mid-range wins. The gold medallion pays 1,000x for five of a kind, and you only need two of a kind or more to win. With the swords symbol, you need at least three for a payout, and five of a kind gets you 500x. The lamp symbol needs four of a kind, and it pays 250x for five.
There are five other minor symbols that are various Arabic letters. Two of them need just two of a kind to win, two need three of a kind, and one of them needs at least four of a kind for a payout. The pays for five of a kind for these symbols range from 150x to 50x, which isn't bad for the lowest paying symbols in a video slot.
Overview
If we're being honest, Desert Treasure was never expected to win any kind of awards for excellent graphics or top-tier innovation. Instead, it was put together to be a solid, basic video slot experience. That's what it set out to do, and that's exactly what it has pulled off. We don't believe that many players will end up with this title as one of their all-time favorites, but it'll be worth checking out for a few sessions for many because of the value-packed free spins feature and the solid 8,000x top payout for five wilds.
