Egyptian-themed online slots have been done so many times that it would be extremely difficult to try to remember even half of them without some sort of reference. That's why games like Treasure of Horus by Iron Dog Studio have to bring it in two key areas if they want to stand out. The first area is visual appeal, which they have done a great job with in this slot. The second area is gameplay, which is particularly solid in this game as well.

Slot Format

Players will recognize the five-reel, three-row format with 20 paylines in this game as being the most popular layout for video slots ever. Betting can often be over-complicated in games like this with too many different options to work with. However, it's pretty simple here since you'll pick total bet sizes ranging from $0.20 to $100 per spin with no other options. Divide your bet by 20 to find your line bet size, and also realize that you do not have options to play with fewer than 20 paylines per spin.

Four Modes of Play

Most of the gameplay in this slot is based on the fact that there are four different stages of play. You start out in the regular mode. If you get an Anubis sign on the middle reel, which looks like a black jackal, then you will enter the Anubis chamber, which is the second stage. This amounts to a free spin bonus feature with six free spins.

Once you're in the Anubis chamber, you have a chance to pick up a Weret symbol on the middle reel, and it's a woman symbol wearing an elaborate headdress. As you might have guessed, doing so brings you to the Weret chamber, and that gives you another six free spins in this third stage.

Finally, from the Weret stage, you can pick up the Horus symbol on the middle reel and advance to the Horus chamber for six additional free spins. This is the fourth and final stage of the game, and the Horus symbol looks like a man wearing a bird-shaped headdress.

Each of these stages has different features and gameplay that give you more and more value as you make it into the later levels.

Wild Symbols and Multipliers

In each of the three free spins modes, you can have different wild symbols and the potential for scatter wins. In the main game and in the first free spins mode, you'll have a green scarab wild. It pays 750x for five of a kind, 150x for four of a kind and 50x for three of a kind. It obviously shows up on all five reels, and it helps you to get extra wins.

However, things get more complicated once you get to the third stage of Weret's chamber. A purple scarab wild symbol appears instead, and it offers a 2x multiplier on any wins that include it in a winning combination. It still has its own pay table that matches what's listed above, but it gives you a chance to get bigger payouts.

Once you make it to the final stage in Horus' chamber, you'll get access to a blue scarab wild as well. This one gives a 5x multiplier, and it's the key to the largest payouts available in the entire slot. In addition, you'll have access to the pharoah scatter symbols. Five anywhere on the reels pays 500x, four gets 200x and three of a kind pays you 100x. These are the real jackpot wins in the game overall.

With these wild multipliers, the multiplier for a winning combination is chosen based on the largest wild multiplier found in that combination. They do not stack or multiply by each other like they do in many other games.

Pay Table and Winnings

Five of the Anhk symbol earns players 600x, and that jumps down to 400x for five of the green cat. You can also win 300x for five of the two crossed knives, and five of the coin symbol earns you 200x.

The purple A symbol is good for 125x for five of a kind. It drops down to the 75x level for five of the pink K symbol, and you can also earn 50x for five of the red Q. The lowest-paying symbol in the game is the orange J, and five of it will get you a win worth 40x.

In Summary

Treasure of Horus is a fun game by Iron Dog Studio that focuses on play across multiple stages of free spins. The deeper you get into these free spins, the more opportunities you have for bigger and better wins. We like how they used the Egyptian mythology motif here with the different levels of gameplay, and the graphics are also top-notch in this slot as well. This is a game that a lot of different types of players will be likely to enjoy.
