China’s Basic Law Committee Believes Macau Needs to Diversify
Li Fei, the chairman of China’s Basic Law Committee has spoken to the Hong Kong press commenting that Macau is too dependent on the gambling market and that they should diversify into other areas.
The Macau gambling market has been in decline for the past six months, with the recent crack down on illegal gambling in China not helping. They believe that as it is now harder to attain a visa, it is putting off major gamblers. They are worried their legal gambling behaviour could result in them being monitored by the police who would be checking for an illegal activity.
