My sincerest apologies to those who are affected by our service being temporary suspended. Thank you all for your patience. We are working diligently to restore service and hope to have an ETA later today.

Nejc Kodric, chief executive officer of Bitstamp

The European Bitcoin exchange, Bitstamp has issued a press statement saying that it has had to suspend its services due to one of its wallets being hacked this past weekend.  Over $5.3 Million (19,000 Bitcoin) were stolen from the wallet.

The hacking is currently being investigated and they have asked that their customers not make any additional payments or deposits whilst the investigation takes place.  They have also assured their customers that their Bitcoin accounts are safe and secure and that the suspension is temporary.
