Will South Africa Legalize Online Gambling?
Politicians in South Africa are reportedly mulling an attempt to legalize online gambling through the country’s Parliament.
South African MP and Shadow Minister for Trade and Industry Geordin Hill-Lewis is preparing an attempt to legalize the activity through a bill. His attempt will likely face widespread opposition due to the country’s current stance on betting, which outlaws all forms of online gambling outside of sportsbetting.
Hill-Lewis’ bill spells out licensing and regulation and would appoint online gambling oversight to the National Gambling Board, with the country having authorities in each of South Africa’s nine provinces.
The bill will be introduced in South Africa’s parliament when they reconvene next month.
