Russia has tasked three government officials, to look into the possibility of legalising online poker in their country.

Back in October 2013, a poll was conducted by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center, who found that 85% of the people polled believe that poker is an intellectual hobby that requires skill.  52% also agreed that Russians should have the option to play online poker.

Back in 2007, Poker was classed as a sport and could; therefore, be played legally in the country; however, in 2010 it ended up being reclassified as gambling, due to some land based poker clubs operating illegally as casinos.

It is rumoured that Igor Shuvalov, the First Deputy Prime Minster of Russia has given the government officials only until the 21st of July, to report their findings.
