UK Online Gambling Changes Start September 2014

Last week we talked about how the UK government would be implementing a new regime for online gambling in their country.  Operators will have to apply for a new point of consumption license, which will set out a range of new regulations and a 15% tax rate.

There has been some uncertainty regarding the dates of the changes, so we have broken it down for you.  The 16th of September 2014, will be the deadline for online casinos to apply for a license.  All the online casinos operating in the UK that haven’t successfully been accepted for a license by the 1st of October will be shut down by the government.  The new 15% tax regime will start from the 1st of December 2014, and by the 31st of January 2015, all online casinos operating in the UK will have to be running on a software program that is also licensed in the UK.
