HSBC in Malta Bans the Use of Credit Cards on Online Gambling Sites

The Malta Independent has reported that the HSBC Bank in Malta no longer lets their customers’ use their bank cards at any online gambling sites.  Why? As the bank fears that there are too many unlicensed sites operating in Malta.

This decision was not passed down to their customers, or to the majority of their customer service department.  They simply decided to stop authorising online gambling transactions on advice from their lawyers.  The bank commented that they implemented the change over a year ago; however, credit card users in Malta only started having problems in the last couple of weeks.

The Malta Independent also reported that only one out of the three customer service reps they contacted at HSBC knew about the ban.
