South African Gambling Board Members Have Their Say

nationalgamblingboardsalogo.JPG

You may recall that a couple of months ago the Minister of Trade and Industry suspended the entire South African Gambling Board and initially refused to give a reason of why.

The Minister was eventually summoned to attend a meeting with MP’s to explain his decision, where he announced that he believed the board was corrupt and had been wasting government funds.

Linda de Vries, the chair of the National Gambling Board, wrote an open letter to the Business Day newspaper, which was dated the day before the Minister was due to met with the MP’s.  In the letter, she denies any level of corruption and says that the minister decided to suspend the board, as they refused to let his nominee; Tumelo Baleni join the board.

The Minister has not yet replied to the accusations.
