Gambling Addict Wins Court Case against Novomatic
An Austrian gambling addict, who supposedly spent over €800,000 playing a range of land based Novomatic video slot games, has since taken the company to court.
Currently in Austria, gambling machines are located in a range of establishments; however, from the 1st of January 2015, the law will be changing so that they can only be played in land based casinos. Over 1,500 Novomatic games are currently located in non-casino locations making it easy for gambling addicts to play.
A psychiatric evaluation was presented to the court saying that due to his gambling addiction he was not responsible for his actions. This led to the addict winning the €440,000 court case and his gambling compacts being annulled.
Novomatic will be appealing the decision.
