The Playboy brand is one of the largest gentleman's magazine companies in the world. The Play Boy slot by Capecod Gaming, however, is not based on that brand, strictly speaking. Instead, it's just full of beautiful women wearing next to nothing. It's clear that there was some "inspiration" going on here, especially considering there is a branded, licensed slot for the Playboy brand from Microgaming, so it's clear what was going on with the production of this game.

Layout and Format

The layout for this game is pretty normal fare for video slots. There are five reels with three rows, and you'll find 25 paylines to bet on. You can only wager one coin on each activated payline, and you have the option to play with as many paylines as you want with a maximum of 25. Keeping this set on 25 will give you the best return to player percentage available, and the coins in this game go from $0.01 to $0.50. The minimum bet is $0.25, and the maximum is $12.50, so high stakes players might want to find something else to play with a larger max bet size.

Scatters and Free Spins

There's a close-up of a redheaded woman who is the scatter symbol in this game. She doesn't give you any scatter payouts, but she will get you free spins. Whenever you get three or more on the reels, you get to pick one of the symbols to reveal a random number of free turns. There are no multipliers or other goodies during the free spins, which makes this feature fall a bit flat, and there's no indication of exactly how many free turns you'll get until you're in the middle of the feature. We find this to be disappointing.

Instant Win Bonus

If you get five girls that spell out the word "bonus," then you get an instant win bonus feature. Pick one of the five girls to reveal an instant win payout. That's really all there is to this feature, and we can't help but wish they would have put a little more effort into it since there's a ton of material to work with when it comes to this slot's Play Boy concept.

Wild Symbols

The Play Boy slot logo symbol is the wild in this game. It'll show up at random anywhere on the reels, and while it does not get its own payouts, it does help you to get wins that you wouldn't have otherwise received. This symbol also doesn't give you anything extra in terms of multipliers or expansions, and it's just a plain wild symbol.

Girl Symbol Payouts

The payout structure for the top five symbols in the game is actually somewhat interesting. Any of the five girls will give you 1,000x for five of a kind, 100x for four of a kind or 25x for three of a kind. These are some pretty decent wins, which is cool because these payouts are given for five of the eight paying symbols in the game. However, you can also get mixed wins for a 50x payout for any set of five girls on an activated payline. This gives you chances to win no matter how you make five women show up on a payline, and that's a pretty cool way to add in extra prizes.

Other Payouts

The green A symbol will get you 150x for five of a kind. Both the orange K and red Q will give players 100x for five on a payline as well. These are the only other symbols in the game, and the payouts are pretty solid. This helps to keep the pay table somewhat balanced considering over half of the paying symbols in the game award players with 1,000x for five of a kind. It's a different structure to the pay schedule, but it works out with the theme of the game.

In Summary

It's perfectly clear that Capecod Gaming "borrowed" the theme and concept of the Play Boy slot. With that having been said, the gameplay isn't terrible, and the graphics are good enough. We aren't really a fan of this type of blatant "borrowing," especially when it looks like they just copied the idea and features of another game without adding anything but a worse presentation, and that's more or less what happened here. If you're interested in the concept of the game but don't want to have to deal with the generic presentation, you should check out Microgaming's slot instead.
