In the rock and roll world, Motorhead is a name that is synonymous with the best. They have put out 22 studio albums and 13 live albums in addition to tons of EPs and compilation albums, and they have sold millions of records over more than four decades. This huge list of credentials made them a no-brainer for Net Entertainment's NetEnt Rocks! line of games, and they've put together a format that's a bit atypical, meaning it's a perfect fit for this band.
This online slot has an atypical format that uses five reels. There are different numbers of symbols on each reel with three on the first two, four on the third and fourth and a total of five symbols on the fifth reel. This has created a format that's good for 76 paylines, an atypical layout in itself, and a type of asymmetrical layout that you rarely see NetEnt go for.
In terms of bet sizing, everything is set up around betting 20 coins per spin. You can multiply this by a factor of up to 10, and the coin sizes range from $0.01 to $1.00 apiece. That means you only need $0.20 per spin to play, but you can wager as much as $200 on each turn if you like.
Wild Symbols, Scatter Symbols and Free Spins
The Ace of Spades symbol, based on their hit song by the same name, is the wild. In this game, it will substitute for anything but the wild symbol, but it does not get its own payout. Likewise, the scatter symbol shows up on the last three reels only. If you get all three on the reels at the same time, then you'll get a set of 10 free spins.
As mentioned above, three scatters will give you the free spins bonus feature. During this feature, you'll get extra value added to the Mystery Reels feature since you can get wild symbols as well as the Mystery symbols. More on that below.
Mystery Reel Feature
Every single spin in this game, whether it's a free spin or a part of the regular game, will give you a mystery reel. When you get mystery symbols on the reels after the spin is over, they will all turn into the same random symbol. During the regular game, they cannot become wilds or scatters. However, during the free spins, they can be wilds, which obviously adds chances for some much bigger payouts. The mystery symbols appear stacked as well, which adds even more value to the feature, making it even more impressive.
Randomly before a regular spin (ie: a non-free spin), you'll be able to pick up the Bomber Feature. When a bomb falls, it will create a cluster of mystery symbols on the reels. At least 10 total mystery symbols will be added, and they will all change into the same random symbol as described in the Mystery Reel feature above. Essentially, this is a different way of awarding the same feature, but you'll generally get more value with the Bomber Feature because you get more symbols on multiple reels this way.
This game is largely built around a high hit-rate experience, which means the pay table is pretty flat and your average win isn't going to seem as large as you would experience otherwise. However, because you hit so much more often, and because of the value you get from the other features, it balances out pretty nicely.
Lemmy is the top paying symbol, and five of a kind gives you a 150x win. He's also the only symbol that pays for two of a kind, which gives a simple 1x win, which is basically like getting your spin paid for. Five of the star symbol pays you 50x, and you'll get 30x for five of the silver bell or of the lucky red seven.
Three symbols make up the lower end of the pays. All of them pay 12x for five, 5x for four and 2x for three of a kind. These three symbols are the horseshoe, the cherries and the shamrock.
Motorhead is definitely a great fit in Net Entertainment's NetEnt Rocks! line of games. It has a low volatility type of gameplay, which puts it in a similar category as a number of other titles this software company has produced. However, the graphics are great, the music is crisp with four different songs that play during the game, and the hit-rate is very high. This is a great game for players who love the band, but for people who don't care about the music all that much, it's still a good way to get in some solid slots action with a balanced pay table.
