The thing that typically sets video slots by Net Entertainment apart from the competition is how they tie together every aspect of their games with the overall theme. Instead of having a bunch of disjointed parts, everything is pulled into one cohesive unit. That's definitely the case with the Warlords: Crystals of Power video slot. It features three characters in a big battle with each other. The red samurai, the green priestess and the blue barbarian all have their own features and related symbols, which come together perfectly in this game.

Format and Layout

The layout for this slot uses 30 paylines. You'll have five reels and three rows to contend with. However, the betting is only based on 15 coins per spin. You can choose to wager as many as 10 coins on each of those paylines, and the coins range from $0.01 to $1 apiece. This puts the minimum bet at $0.15 per turn, and you can wager as high as $150 per spin with this game.

It's worth noting that this game has a somewhat high volatility because of all of the features involved, but the pay table and betting setup have been put together to limit that as much as possible. The pay table is balanced, and being able to wager just 15 coins for 30 paylines of action helps to smooth out the swings.

Wild Symbols and Features

Wild symbols show up on all five reels. They look like a set of three jewels (red, green and blue) wrapped in a circle of gold. Three of a kind pays 15x, four of a kind pays 60x, and five of a kind will give you a 300x win for the wild symbols. What really makes these wild symbols stand out is the fact that there is a random overlay wild pattern that can happen on any spin. Whenever you trigger this feature, there is a different set of reels used with no scatters, and you get one of three different types of wild overlay patterns based on each of the three characters in the game.

Scatters and Bonus Features

Three different scatters (red, blue and green) show up on the reels. Each of these represents one of the three characters. If you get two or more of the scatter symbols on the reels, then you get a re-spin feature. The scatters normally only show up on the middle three reels, but they can show up on all five during the re-spin. Three of more scatters triggers a free spins bonus round, and they are determined by the colors. If they're all three of the same color, you get that corresponding round. However, if you get three or more that aren't of the same color, then the feature you get is chosen at random.

Three Free Spins Features

The blue scatters get the Barbarian free spins feature, which gives nine free spins. The green is for the Priestess, and she gets seven. Five free spins are awarded for the Samurai, which is the red symbol. Each of these games only uses its corresponding scatter symbol, and they each have different extras and rules for the round.

In the Barbarian free spins, you get the warrior and animal symbols only, and a scatter on the reels gives you three more spins. The Priestess free spins gives you extra scatters that give multipliers. You can also get the Samurai free spins, which turns the scatters into sticky wild symbols for the whole feature.

Major Payouts and Stacked Symbols

Each of the main three characters appears stacked in this game in sets of three. The Samurai pays 300x for five of a kind, the Priestess pays 200x for five of a kind, and you can get 150x for five of the Barbarian symbol. The red wolf symbol gives 120x, and you'll pick up 90x for five of the black panther. Five of the hog pays a solid 75x win. You can also pick up 60x for five of the red mask, 50x for five of the green mask or 40x for five of the blue mask.

Our Thoughts

Warlords: Crystals of Power is a very in-depth game that is completely character-driven. This creates a type of gameplay that is based around the scatters primarily, and with the complicated re-spin feature, it's somewhat tricky to know exactly what's going on until you get used to it. The multiple free spins feature aspect of the situation is nice, and the graphics are solid as well. This is a good overall game, and Net Entertainment did a great job with it.
