A mistake that a lot of software providers will make is that they'll focus on gameplay or visual appeal exclusively instead of making sure they are strong in both. With Net Entertainment's Asgardian Stones slot, you get a great example of what it looks like to have a title that is great in both of these areas. It uses a Norse mythology motif, but the gameplay is all about giving you lots of ways to win within a high hit-rate, low-volatilty environment.
The layout is about as usual as you can get with five reels, three rows and 20 total paylines that cannot be turned on and off. These lines are static. You can pick from between one and 10 coins on each of those paylines with coin sizes that start at $0.01 on the low end and that go up to $1 apiece on the upper end. As such, the minimum bet size is $0.20 per turn, and you can also wager as much as $200 per spin as well. NetEnt clearly wanted to give players a really wide range of bet sizes to pick from here.
Colossal Symbols and Gameplay
One of the first major gameplay features you're going to run into is the colossal symbols. These symbols always appear in a square, but they cover four or nine positions with a 2x2 or 3x3 layout. In short, they cover up a tremendous portion of the screen real estate, and each spot they take up counts as one instance of that symbol. When these appear, they create a large cluster of the same symbol, and their purpose is to make it a lot easier to hit winning combinations along with giving you more opportunities to nail multiple wins on the same spin.
We want to point out that all of the non-wild symbols can show up as colossal in this game. During the free spins (due to the avalanche feature), it can appear as a wild, and you can imagine the tremendous amount of value that comes from that.
Avalanche Feature and Re-spins
Players get a type of re-spin mode in the avalanche style whenever they hit a win in this game. After your payout is given to you as usual, you'll see the symbols that created the winning combination explode, and that includes the entire space taken up by colossal symbols that were a part of a winning combo. From there, you'll have more symbols fall down into place, and this gives you yet another chance to get wins. This process continues until you have symbols fall into place without any payouts, and that's when your spin is actually over.
Get Paid With the Colossal Crush
Whenever you get a winning combination on your initial spin, you can activate the Colossal Crush feature at random. If this happens, then you'll get a colossal symbol that falls down into place, and it will crush everything on the row below where it falls. From there, you'll get paid, and the symbol will fall again. This repeats until it reaches the bottom of the screen. Each spot it falls increases the multiplier to a maximum of 4x as well, and you can see the current multiplier on the left-hand side of the reels.
Top-level Character Symbols
There are five character symbols. It's easiest to identify them by numbers, but they all give you strong payouts. The red symbol (which is actually Odin) pays out a 500x win when you line up five of a kind. The green figure with the gem in her forehead is worth 300x for five, and five of the blue figure with the beard earns 150x. Wins of 120x and 100x are yours for five of the purple or gray symbols as well.
Card Rank Payouts
There are only three low-level symbols in this slot. They come in the form of card rank symbols, and they all award the same payouts. A 30x win is yours for five of the red A, the green K or the blue Q. These symbols are very dark and feature color schemes that match up with the overall visual motif very well. These wins might seem somewhat small, but the ability to win several times at once with the combination of features offsets that quite a bit. You'll also have a higher hit-rate than average thanks to the lower volatility, and that helps out a lot as well.
Net Entertainment has done a tremendous job with the Asgardian Stones slot. From even just a visual standpoint, it looks amazing and has extremely smooth graphics, even with the colossal symbols and explosions from the avalanche feature taken into account. On the gameplay side of things, it has a lot of replay value and a lot of excitement. The action is fast, and the hit-rate is high as well, and those things combine to make this a very enjoyable title.
