Atypical Format
This game uses five reels and five rows, in a sense. It doesn't use typical reels like you'd expect in most slots. Instead, a grid of 25 symbols in a square fall down onto the screen. You can choose bet sizes ranging from $0.10 to $40 per play, and in our description of the payouts below, everything will be based on a bet size of $1.00.
Instead of having to win along set paylines, you can win with three or more in a row anywhere on the game board in any direction, including horizontally, vertically and diagonally. This is extremely atypical, and it creates a situation where you're getting a lot of combination wins.
Wild Symbols and Avalanches
There is a bit of an avalanche-like feature in Cloud Quest that largely defines the gameplay. Whenever you get a winning combination of three or more symbols, they will flicker and disappear from the screen with wild symbols in place of the middle symbols of the combination. The symbols on the screen will then collapse to give you what amounts to a free respin with a chance to get bigger winning combinations thanks to the wilds. What's interesting about this game is that new symbols do not fall from above the game's rows and columns, and if you clear out the screen, no new symbols fall into place.
Power Stones and Bonus Features
The power stone symbol is the one symbol in the game that you'll want to keep an eye on the most because it helps you to fill your power meter to get huge features that are worth a lot of value. This symbol is the lowest-paying regular symbol in the game, and it appears very often. Three of a kind fills one section, four fills two and five fills three parts of the power meter. If you fill the meter's 10 sections in a single spin (including the subsequent respins), then you'll get one of a few different super powers that act as extra features for the game.
You can earn a 5x multiplier, wilds that stay on the reels instead of disappearing, all symbols pay scattered or all winning combinations turn completely into wild symbols. All of these features add a tremendous amount of value to the reels, and it's cool that you earn them in such an atypical way.
Bonus Round
You get to play a battle-based classic slot bonus round when you completely reveal the word "Bonus" across a row. The word "Bonus" is laid behind the symbols at the beginning of each spin on a random row that's usually the second or third from the bottom. This gives you up to 20 free spins on a special three-reel bonus game with its own pay table. When you get certain symbols, you'll attack the monster you're fighting, and each monster you beat gives you an additional three free spins. If you beat the final boss, you'll earn 100 times your total bet and pick up a 2x multiplier for your winnings on the remainder of your free spins. This feature also allows you to level up your character.
Payouts and Winning Combinations
The wild symbol pays the best in the game with a $150 prize for five in a row, though it doesn't pay for three, and you'll need at least four (for a $10 payout) to win with it. The red warrior pays $50 for five, and the green archer pays $20. The black mage (as a purple symbol) pays $8 for five of a kind as well.
The red sword pays $5, the green knives pay $4 and the purple scepter pays $3, all for five of a kind. This leaves a red shield with a $2.50 win for five, a green potion for a $2 win and a purple book for a $1.50 payout, when you earn five of a kind. The power stone pays $1 for five because it helps to activate the bonus features.
Overview
Cloud Quest is an extremely in-depth slot with advanced gameplay. Every type of slot player should try this game at least once because this type of gameplay could very seriously become the new paradigm for online slots if this catches on.
