There are tons of shows like Britain's Got Talent and American Idol that showcase people who think they can sing, and Stage 888 plays on that to a degree. Red Tiger Gaming has brought all of the lights and action to the reels of this game with a bit of a play on Asian superstitions involving the number eight and it's supposed lucky properties to bring good fortune.
Game Layout and Format
The format of this game is extremely straightforward. It is a 20-payline video slot, and it uses the typical layout of five reels and three rows. You'll always have 20 paylines to play on because they are fixed, but it wouldn't really matter if they weren't because it's almost always the right decision to keep all paylines turned on to keep your RTP percentage as high as possible. Coins for this game range from $0.01 to $3 apiece to give an overall range of available bets that start at $0.20 and go up to the $60 level.
This game has a variety of randomly-hitting bonus features that can happen after any spin. There are a lot of them, and they all give you value in different ways. It's important to keep this in mind when looking at the pay table because it kind of skews how you'll look at the game's payout structure.
First up is the Stage Bonus, and it's tied into the name of the game. You basically get to press a button for a random chance to win one of a number of prizes that range from 888x at the top end to 88x on the bottom end. You'll notice that a ton of prizes in this game have an 88 motif to them, and that's because of the superstition that surround the number 8 and it being a lucky number in the East.
There are also chances for instant win payouts in a feature, but the Mike Bonus round is also interesting. In the Instant Win feature, you pick a note from a series of them, and the note you pick will give you a win. During the Mike Bonus, you get a chance to perform, and you get a random win based on how you do. It's essentially another version of the instant win game, but they both give you some reasonable payouts.
Mega Tile Feature
Something really cool that can happen at random is that a Mega Tile will appear on the reels. This covers several different symbols in a rectangle, and it makes it much easier to hit several winning combinations on the same spin by lining up so many matching symbols. This appears at random, but when it does, it can be responsible for some of the biggest combination wins in the game.
Magic Reels and Nudges
There are two features that are somewhat related. The first is the Magic Reels feature, which gives you a chance to get reels that only have wilds and the best regular-paying symbols on them. In addition to that is the Nudge Feature. If you barely missed a winning combination, sometimes a reel with nudge itself a symbol or two into place to make the combination for you. Both of these features are based on individual reels, and they give you opportunities to get big wins you wouldn't have gotten otherwise.
Stacked Wild Symbols
There are a few different characters who can appear in the stacked wilds, but they show up on every reel, and they can end up covering an entire reel as well. Five of a kind pays 888x, which is a strong win, and you can also earn 188x for four or 58x for three of a kind. Because they're stacked, you'll frequently get several other wins at the same time, which makes them even more valuable.
The 888 symbol pays the same as the wild with 888x for five. You can also earn 388x for five of the microphone symbol. From there, there are five card rank symbols with various pays. Five of the red A gives 88x, and five of the purple K pays 60x. You'll also earn 48x for five of the blue Q, 38x for five of the pink J or 28x for five of a kind with the green 10.
To say that Stage 888 is feature-rich would be a massive understatement. This game has a tremendous number of features with a ton of ways to win, and it's a great option for players who want an action-packed experience. The theme is a little generic, but the graphics are great, and it's a game that gives players a fun time. Overall, we would have liked to see a more balanced pay table on the bottom end with those low wins for the card rank payouts, but that's the only problem we have with this game.
