Alice in Wonderland is one of the most popular film adaptations of a book of all time, and we've seen several instances of it throughout the years. The slot by the same name by Slotland does an extremely good job with the general theme and a lot of the key characters in the story, and it uses 3D rendered graphics in many places to really nail things visually. The gameplay is also extremely solid, making this an all-around awesome video slot.
Layout and Format
You'll notice right away that there are five reels and three rows of symbols in this game. There are also 30 paylines, and they all pay left-to-right only. You'll also need to deal with the somewhat uneven bet sizes that come with 30-payline games, but it's not such a big deal here since you have several betting options to choose from.
You will have the choice to play with fewer than 30 paylines, but don't take it. It will lower your RTP, which hurts you in the long run. Instead, choose smaller coin sizes. You can only bet one coin per payline, but the coins themselves run from $0.02 to $2 each, so the total betting options per spin are $0.60 to $60 per turn. This is plenty wide enough for virtually all players, whether they are high rollers and penny players.
Free Spins Bonus Round
Alice is the scattered bonus symbol in this game. She will help you to trigger the free spins during the regular game, and during the free spins round, she will help you to get extra free spins. Three of a kind awards seven free turns in the base game. Four of a kind gets you 10, and five of a kind awards 15. These can show up anywhere on the reels.
During the bonus feature, there are a couple of things that work differently than the normal game mode. First, any Alice symbol you get adds one to your total number of free spins. Second, you start with a 2x multiplier on all of your wins. Each cake symbol you get adds one to that multiplier, and each potion symbol you get decreases the multiplier by one. It can't get any lower than a 1x multiplier, obviously, but it can get fairly high to award some pretty significant payouts.
The Mad Hatter Symbol Morph Feature
When the Mad Hatter shows up, he can cause some symbols to morph to give you extra wins that you wouldn't have received otherwise, or he can give you longer winning combinations for the wins you already have. He does this by throwing his hat, so if you see him show up and start changing things around, know that it can only help your bottom line.
Wild Tweedledum and Tweedledee Symbols
The Tweedles always show up standing on top of each other on the reels. This creates a stacked wild that can cover the entire reel if you get lucky with it. There are no special wild payouts for combinations of wilds, but they do help you hit multi-line payouts that you wouldn't have hit otherwise thanks to being stacked and having the ability to cover an entire reel with wilds.
Key Payouts
The top jackpot in the game is a progressive. You get it for lining up five of the queen symbol whenever you're playing for a wager of at least $5. Otherwise, five of a kind of the queen will give you the top static jackpot of 1,000x. You can also win 500x for five of the cat and 300x for five of the Mad Hatter.
Five of the cards guarding the gate will get you a 150x win, and five of the flowers with faces on them are worth 100x. You can also score 50x for five of the door, 40x for five watches or 20 for five of the tea sets. These are all beautiful symbols that have a lot of importance in the story, but we're a little surprised that we don't see a rabbit.
Our Thoughts
Slotland's Alice in Wonderland slot is a beautiful game with excellent graphics and features. The free spins bonus round is handled in a little bit different of a way, including how the multipliers and extra free turns are handled, which gives it a unique feel compared to what you normally see. On top of that, the progressive jackpot always pays at least $100,000 and is tied together with all of their other slots, meaning it shoots up in value faster. Overall, this is a tremendous game that we strongly recommend players try.
