If you're a fan of games that are morbid or even just a little weird, then you will absolutely love Esqueleto Explosivo. This game is based on a somewhat goofy interpretation of the Day of the Dead, and it features a number of skeletons that all seem to have their own particular flavor and style, which isn't the first thing you think of when you think of a bare human skull. This game has a high hit-rate, a low volatility and chances to win a lot of different ways on the same spin thanks to a smart combination of features.
Format and Layout
The format of this game uses five reels with three rows, much like the vast majority of all video slots out there today. However, it also has something a little atypical to offer with 17 paylines that you can get paid on with every single spin. You would think that this would mean you're going to have to contend with some tricky and uneven bet sizes, but Thunderkick has taken care of that as well. You will simply bet between $0.10 and $100 per spin, and your available wins are based on a multiple of your total bet size instead of being based on line bets.
Personally, we prefer this type of betting scheme since it makes it very clear what kind of wins you're going to get in comparison to how much you're betting on each spin, and there's no room for confusion or misinterpretation whatsoever. For the wins we talk about below, we're going to assume a bet size of $1.00 per spin. If you play for more or less than this, then your wins will be scaled accordingly and in proportion to your bet size.
The Five Basic Symbols
Something that's interesting about video slots is that the fewer paying symbols you have, the better your chances of getting winning combinations. With Esqueleto Explosivo, there are only five paying symbols in the entire game, so your chances of winning are definitely through the roof. Along these lines, each of the five skeletons has their own unique style that makes them stand out, even though they're all just a bunch of floating human skulls.
The pink skeleton has heart-shaped eyeballs and a rose in his mouth. He'll give you $2.50 for five of a kind, $0.90 for four of a kind and $0.50 for three of a kind. The green skeleton has a heart on her forehead and a flower over her head, and she pays $1.40 for five, $0.70 for four and $0.40 for three.
Moving down the pay table, you can pick up $1.20 for five of the blue skeleton with the large mustache. He also pays $0.60 for four of a kind and $0.30 for three. The orange skull is cracked over one of the eye sockets, and it has a diamond on its forehead. Five of this guy earns $0.90, four picks up $0.50 and three gives you a win worth $0.30. Finally we have the teal skeleton, who is missing some teeth and whose eyeballs are looking in opposite directions. Five of a kind earns $0.70, you'll get $0.40 for four and a prize of $0.20 is yours for three.
Explosive Wild Symbol
One of the more important symbols in the game is the wild. You don't get special payouts for him, but he does count for any of the five symbols around you. What's interesting is that he will explode to take out a bunch of nearby symbols, and that adds to your chances for additional wins thanks to the cascading explosion feature.
When you get a winning combination, all of the winning symbols (and the symbols all the way around each wild symbol) will explode, allowing new symbols to fall into place to get even more payouts. However, you'll also increase your multiplier after each explosion from 1x to 2x to 4x and so on, up to a maximum of 32x. That means the top individual win in this game is actually worth $80 if you get five of the top symbol with the 32x multiplier activated.
Thunderkick has a game development style that centers around the idea of building an entire game around a set of cooperative features. In this case with Esqueleto Explosivo, the features in question are the exploding wild symbols and the cascade feature. These combine to drive some very fast-paced gameplay in this title, and it's a cool way to generate some very solid gameplay. The only thing that might turn a player off from this game is the fact that it does present a high hit-rate, low-volatility style of play, which does not appeal to some players. However, most people will enjoy this game for what it is.
