Rubik’s cube was invented in 1974, as a puzzle cube with six different colors that should be aligned with each other, and has since been a source of entertainment or desperate frustration, depending on how good you are at assembling it.
Given that the Rubik’s cube has reels and rows of its own to create the various color combinations, it shouldn't come as a surprise it has inspired a video slot.
iGaming software developer Ash Gaming did exactly that, delivering a 5x3 and 25 paylines video slot simply called Rubik’s Cube.
The transition of the Rubik's cube into a video slot was done superbly. The blue background provides a perfect backdrop for the six colors to spin on the reels, but above the slot machine as well, since the little Rubik's Cube above has a purpose of its own.
The dashboard at the bottom is very easy to use, providing an option to toggle the bet, activate the quick spin mode, or set the auto spin that can range from five to infinite such spins.
The music is simple and minimalist, and the effects when spinning the reels are that of classic slot games.
The betting range goes from $0.10 to $500.00, and the maximum win possible with this title is x130 of the placed bet.
The six classic Rubik's cube colors each pay their respective value. White pays the least of 3, 5, and 20, depending on whether 3, 4, or 5 lands on the reels. It is followed by yellow, orange, green and blue cubes, while the red one pays the most, 15, 32, and 130, when 3, 4, or 5 lands.
The lesser paying symbols are the six Royals with corresponding six colors. Four of them, the white 9, blue 10, green J, and yellow Q reward 1, 2, and 10, when 3, 4, or 5 of them appear, while the orange K and red A grant 1, 3, and 15 on the same principle.
The little Rubik Cube above the slot machine will rotate simultaneously as the reels spin. If the color and position match the one on the reels, those symbols on the reels will transform into Wilds.
Additionally, if the cube creates a single color combination, the symbols of the same color on the middle three reels will turn into multiplier Wilds, multiplying from x2 up to the x7 of the win.
Depending on the color, the same as the symbols on the reels, the white multiplies the least and the red one the most.
The special Rubik's symbol is a Scatter that can land on any of the reels, triggering the extra spins game. Following the theme almost to the fault, there are six such games that you get to choose from.
White spins grant 10 extra spins with x2 multiplier Wilds, yellow spins reward 8 extra spins with x3 multiplier Wilds, orange one grants 6 extra spins with x4 multiplier Wilds, and green and blue deliver 5 and 3 extra spins with 5 and 6 multiplier Wilds, respectively.
The red spins feature gives the most of x7 multiplier Wilds, but only 2 extra spins.
Ash Gaming did a very good job of taking a famous puzzle game and creating a video slot that corresponds with its mechanic perfectly.
The fact that the Wild features work via the little cube above the slot machine adds additional charm and attention to detail when it comes to the theme.
As for the features themselves, regular Wilds, multiplier Wilds, Scatters, and 6 extra spin games to choose from should be more than enough to attract even the most demanding players.
