Bally Technologies is known for producing both online and land-based slots, and their Dragon Spin video slot is a good example of a game that can be found in both arenas. It offers players an opportunity to score big with four different dragons, all of which have balanced pays. The graphics of this game as a whole are pretty average, though the dragons themselves have been drawn with a lot of detail. What stands out the most is the Reel Blast feature with a chance to make the playing field a whole lot bigger.

Game Format and Layout

During the regular play mode, this game uses five reels and three rows, and there are a total of 30 paylines per spin, which lends itself to some uneven bet sizes. You'll actually choose the total amount you want to bet per spin, which simplifies the betting, and it runs from $0.30 per turn to $120 per spin.

On the pay table in the actual game, you'll notice that the pays are scaled according to your total bet size. When we discuss payouts here, we're going to look at what they are with a bet size of $1.20 per spin. If you play with a smaller or larger bet size, your winnings will be scaled accordingly.

Regular Gameplay and Wilds

There are a few different modes of gameplay in this slot. During regular gameplay, you'll get wilds through the Mystery Stacked Reels feature only. The way this feature works is that there are mystery symbols that appear on the reels during your spin, and they will be randomly replaced by the same symbol during a single spin. This is the only way that wilds can appear during this part of the game, but they always appear in bunches.

Because of the way this feature works, you can only get four wilds in a row during this stage of the game, and it gives you a 2x win based on a wager size of $1.20. You can get the same 2x payout for five of the red, blue, purple or green dragons. Likewise, a payout of 0.80x is yours for five of the red A, the orange K, the yellow Q, the blue J or the purple 10.

Bonus Symbols and Dragon Spins

The name of this game Dragon Spin is also the name of the main bonus feature. Get three of the bonus symbol anywhere on the reels to be awarded a 1.2x win, which essentially pays back the cost of your triggering spin. You'll then get a spin on the dragon wheel for one of three bonus features: raining wilds, reel blast or persisting wilds.

Raining Wilds Feature

If you get the raining wilds feature, then you'll pick up five free spins with between three and 10 random wilds dropped across the reels on each of those spins. You can get five wilds in this feature, which gives a larger 4x payout. Aside from that, the rest of the payouts are the same as the regular game. It's important to note that this feature is capable of giving you some pretty incredible combination wins, and it's impressive that this may actually be the least valuable of the three bonus features, just to give you an idea of how much value the other two features pack.

Persisting Wilds Feature

Players also get five free spins with the persisting wilds feature. In this feature, random wilds show up on each spin, but they stay on the reels until the end of the feature, giving you value across multiple spins. You'll get one or two on the first three spins, one to three on the fourth and between two and seven on the fifth.

Reel Blast Feature

The reel blast feature is where things get really crazy. You get three reel sets, which essentially expands the game by a factor of three vertically. You get five free spins during this, and you'll get a shared reel blast reel in the middle. All of the reels during this feature have a better set of symbols on them, and the mystery symbol feature is active, giving you a chance to pick up five of a kind in wilds. It's a particularly value-heavy feature, and the best of the three.

Dragon Spin is based around different free spin bonus features, and Bally Technologies has done a good job of focusing on the gameplay with this slot. While it doesn't have the best graphics in the industry, they are more than sufficient, especially when you take into account the fact that the gameplay is so solid. This is a moderate-volatility slot because of the balanced paytable, and it's a good fit for a lot of different play styles.
