The Event Horizon slot by Betsoft features a sort of outer space, futuristic graphical theme in a lot of ways, but it also includes some major throwbacks to the days of classic slots and fruit machines. Fruit machines were originally mechanical slots that paid out different flavors of bubble gum based on the fruit symbols that you lined up to make a win, and they eventually became a hallmark of later three-reel games. With this video slot, you'll see different types of fruit, bells, bar symbols and more with a theme that combines these classic icons of the genre with modern gameplay and graphics.
Game Layout
This game is laid out as a 243-ways format title. This means you have five reels and three rows, and all symbols are essentially left-to-right scatters. This creates a fast-paced atmosphere that means lots of wins in a short period of time if you catch the reels just right. Betting in this game is based on sets of 25 coins at a time. You can bet multiples of 25 coins up to a total of 125 coins per spin, and the coin sizes start at $0.02 apiece. This puts the minimum bet size at $0.50 per turn, and since coins go up to the $0.25 level, you can bet as high as $31.25 per spin.
Syncing Reels
The main feature that drives the gameplay in Event Horizon is the syncing reels feature. The way this works is that you get two reels that start to sync at the beginning of a spin. The reels are chosen at random, but they're always adjacent to each other. When reels sync together, they show the same three symbols from top to bottom. This gives you value by making it a lot easier to hit multiple wins all at the same time. What's even more impressive is that this game gets the maximum value for the player with this feature thanks to the 243-ways format, so it's possible to get a ton of extra payouts that you wouldn't have otherwise received, especially if wilds show up in the reels that sync together.
Every spin gets two reels syncing together in this game. However, this can sometimes expand to cover more reels. Anywhere from two to five reels total can sync together at once, and this leads to some chances for massive, multi-prize payouts on a single spin that compensates for the fact that some of the regular pay table might seem a bit flat at first.
High-End Payouts
The wild symbol in this game will substitute for any other symbol in the game to create the best possible winning combination on each way to win. With that having been said, it does not have its own payout for multiple wins on a payline, which wouldn't matter much on a 243-ways format game anyway. Along these lines, the lucky red seven is the top paying symbol, and it gives you a 1,000x payout for five of a kind. You'll also pick up 250x for four.
The bell symbol comes in next with a 500x win for five of a kind and 150x for four of a kind. The set of three bars gives you 400x if you line up five, and the 100x payout for four isn't too bad either. The double bar and single bar symbols have the same payout structure of 250x for five, 75x for four and 10x for three.
It's worth noting that all symbols in this game require at least three of a kind for a payout.
Bottom End Wins
There are six symbols that make up the bottom half of the pays. First you have the cherry, green A and yellow K symbols that all have the same payout structure. You'll get a 40x win for five of a kind in any of these three symbols. The other possible wins are 15x for four and 4x for three of a kind.
Finally we have the purple Q, the orange J and the blue 10 symbols. Each of these awards 25x for five of a kind, 10x for four of a kind and 3x for three. These are reasonable wins for the bottom end of the payouts.
Overview
Event Horizon is a good example of BetSoft building an entire game around a single feature. They've done it really well, and it fits the visual theme also. This game is all about a lot of fast action, but the soundtrack and soothing visual appeal are great for players who want to sit back and enjoy a relaxing slots session as well. Generally speaking, it seems like this game is one of the few that will appeal to both action seekers and those who want a more relaxing experience at the same time.
