CORE Gaming has produced titles with a lot of different themes and concepts, but their Pharaohs Wild slot uses a concept that has been used a lot in the industry as a whole. It's based around an Egyptian tomb and your chances of finding treasure there. The graphics are good but not outstanding, and it's really the gameplay that's what stands out here because of the multiple features. The pay table itself is fairly flat and balanced, and that leads to a pretty tame volatility as well.

Format and Layout

The format used here is about as standard as you can get with five reels, three rows and 20 paylines. These paylines are static and cannot be changed. They've made the betting about as simple as humanly possible as well, which is something we're a fan of, because you only pick from your total bet sizes per spin. There is no manipulating of coin sizes, numbers of coins per payline, etc. Instead, you simply pick a value from $0.20 per spin to $500 per spin, though that maximum value can be lower depending on which casino you're playing with. They have the option to drop down the max bet sizes a bit, and many places do, but you'll normally be able to play for at least $100 per turn virtually anywhere this game is available.

Wild Jackal Symbol

The wild jackal is probably the most important symbol in this slot in terms of your overall experience. It acts as a wild symbol that substitutes for everything except the highest-paying symbol in the game. It also shows up on all five reels, but it doesn't get its own payouts. Instead, payouts for three, four or five of a kind will be based on the second-highest symbol, which we'll cover below.

You can also use this wild symbol to activate the free spins bonus feature.

Free Spins Bonus Feature

Players can activate a set of free spins by simply getting three or more of the wild symbol located anywhere on the reels. They don't have to be all on the same payline or in any particular position. When you get this feature, your number of free spins depends on a few factors. All of the wilds will walk one reel to the left after each free turn, and the feature continues as long as there are wilds left on the reels, including new ones that you can get during the feature itself.

However, if you get to the end of the feature, you also have a chance to get a random mummy that appears and gives you another wild on the fifth reel. This guarantees that you get at least five more free spins since it will take that many turns for the wild to walk off of the left-hand side of the screen. This is a cool way to handle the free spins feature that we can't remember having seen before, and it adds a whole new dynamic to this bonus feature. It also adds some logic as to why it's triggered with the wild symbol in the first place.

The Floating Bonus Feature

This is a feature that we really haven't ever seen before, and it shows that CORE Gaming is ahead of the curve in terms of gameplay and how they handle bonus rounds. If you get the same symbol on all three spots on the first reel, then you're taken to the Floating Bonus Feature. The last four reels will keep spinning while the character that's on the first reel will slide across from left-to-right copying itself into different positions. The reels then stop, giving players a better chance to hit several multi-line payouts.

Mummy Bonus Round

The final bonus feature is all about the mummy that you see on the screen in the top-right corner of the Pharaohs Wild slot. This feature is actually triggered at random, and you'll see the mummy come alive in the top-right corner of the game when the spin is initiated. At random, you'll have several of the same symbol show up in places all over the grid of symbols before the reels come to a stop. This can be the wild symbol, which will in turn trigger the free spins feature as well. The reels then stop, and you'll have better chances to win than a normal spin.

Symbol Set and Payouts

The pharaoh symbol, which is not substituted for by the wild, earns 25x for five of a kind. You can pick up 20x for five of the golden ram or 18x for five of the camel. Five of the mummy gets you 15x, which is kind of odd since it's what the game is based around.

For the card ranks, you can earn 6x for five of the red A or green K symbols. It's 3x for five of a kind of the blue J, yellow Q or purple 10. All of these payouts are multiples of the total wager, so they scale with different bet sizes.
