When the 50 Shades of Grey series of books came out and became so popular, people sat back and took notice. While it was largely based on a combination fan fiction of the Twilight series and the Secretary movie, this series caught the attention of a lot of people for its (admittedly poor) depiction of BDSM in a relationship. The Taboo slot by Endorphina is a not-so-subtle reference to some of the motifs in this series of books but also to BDSM in general.
Regardless of what you think about these activities, you can't deny that this game's presentation is super strong. It has a black and red leather motif with a particularly sharp look and crisp graphics that make it particularly visually appealing.
Slot Format
At its core, this is a 25-payline video slot that uses five vertical reels and three horizontal rows. It doesn't use anything atypical on the layout front, and you can adjust the number of paylines, but that's a bad idea because you'll take a punishment in the form of a lower RTP, which means your payout rate will bottom out.

Scattered Master Symbol
In BDSM, a master is someone who has another voluntarily submit to be that person's property under their control to whatever degree they have agreed to, and this person is wearing black high heels with red bottoms and is holding a riding crop that is down by the floor. She's the scatter in this game, and she's very important because she will give you the regular payline win that you can gain from any single payout.
Five of this lady gets you a 1,250x win, but you can also earn 250x for four of a kind and 50x for three of a kind. These wins are worth more than they might seem initially because they aren't restricted to particular paylines. That makes them easier to get in principle than the payline-based combinations.
Wild Symbol
There's a red leather symbol with a black leather trim and lots of square metal plates on it. It reads "WILD" across the middle in golden letters, and this is obviously the wild symbol. It does not show up on all of the reels; it only appears on the second, third and fourth reels in this game. This does mean that it will not be able to give you payouts as usual for winning combinations that only consist of this wild symbol. With that having been said, it will give you plenty of value thanks to expanding on each reel. It also counts once per reel as the scatter, but it does not count for the bonus symbol.
Red Room Bonus Round
The Red Room is where all of the action supposedly happens, and three of the triple yin-yang bonus symbol will activate this feature no matter where they appear. You'll be taken to a wheel with multiple chances to spin to win instant win prizes ranging from 10 times your bet to 25 times your bet. If you hit the bonus symbol on the reels, you'll be taken to another screen for a pick a box style feature with different striking tools used for sadomasochism. This gives you more chances at bigger instant wins.
Other Prizes
The slave woman in the black bustier with the black leather collar and a leash gets you 10,000x for five, and she'll pay out for two of a kind or more as the only symbol that doesn't require three for a win. The hands in leather cuffs earns 1,000x for five, and five of the handcuffs on a red pillow will get you 750x. Five of the black paddle on a payline earns 500x, and it drops to 100x for five of a kind wins of the black flogger. Any of the B, D, S or M symbols can pick up 100x for five on a payline as well.
Our Thoughts
Endorphina does not shy away from themes that other companies don't seem to want to touch, and that's one of the reasons why they have seen so much success. We see that pattern in the Taboo online slot for sure with its adult theme, though there is no nudity or any simulated nudity at all. Everything is heavily suggested instead of outright spelled out, and it helps this game to keep a tasteful edge. Some companies that try to create adult-themed games fall into a trap of making everything too blatant, but that's not the case with this particular title.
