In all online slots, there is a balance between gameplay, graphics and features. The graphics of the Just a Game video slot by FUGA Gaming are pretty simple, and it's clear that the focus is on the gameplay and the features. Along these lines, they've used a pretty simple vacation style theme, and you can see palm trees, drink glasses and sunshines, among other related symbols, on the reels to reflect this.
When you first start playing this game, you'll notice some counters on the left-hand side along with five reels and three rows of normal spots for symbols. There are 20 paylines in this game, and unlikely a number of other titles by this provider, there is not an option to adjust the number of lines you play on. You can pick from total bet sizes that go from $0.20 at the lower end to $100 at the upper end, which means high rollers, low-stakes players and everyone in between will have bet sizes that work for them available.
The bonus symbol is the golden question mark symbol, and it shows up on all reels. If you get any number of them on the screen at all, even if it's just one, they will turn into a randomly selected feature symbol. This can be a wild, which is a blue W, a wild multiplier, which is a wild that multiplies wins its a part of by 2x, an expanded wild, which is a green W or a respin, which comes in the form of a red R. The respin symbol is a wild, but it gives you up to five respins with the bonus symbols held in place.
When you get any of these last three symbols, they will increase the counter for that particular symbol on the left-hand side. This is an important part of how the main bonus feature is activated, but these goodies show up on the reels and give you better chances to hit winning combinations right away.
To activate the free spins, you'll need to have at least one point on each of the three counters on the left-hand side of the reel. You can add those numbers up to see how many free spins you'll get, and you'll also be given an instant win worth half of your total bet multiplied by the total number of free spins you're given. This is a double whammy of value with a free spins feature that's triggered in a way that's much different than what you've probably seen anywhere before, and it's the type of thing that shows just how much FUGA was trying to be creative with the gameplay style that this title has available for players.
The four bonus symbols are all wilds, and they all combine to give you some good payouts. This includes the expanded green wild, the 2x purple wild multiplier, the red respin feature and the regular blue wild symbol. Five of a kind is worth 300x, which can double to 600x with the multiplier. Four of a kind of these symbols on a payline gets you 150x, and that drops down to 30x for three of a kind. These are pretty reasonable wins.
Outside of the three bonus wilds, the sunshine is the next-highest symbol, and five of a kind of it is worth a 250x payout. Five of the green palm trees on the beach can line up on a payline to give you a win of 200x, and you can make that 150x for five of a kind of either the yellow beer mug or the purple wine glass. This drops just slightly to 100x for the blue cup of coffee. However, the 75x win for five of the lemon symbol or the BAR symbol is still pretty good. With that having been said, it drops off substantially for the cherry symbol. Five of this will only earn you 30x.
We're of the opinion that FUGA Gaming should have done more with the graphics in the Just a Game slot. Despite the name, it really is "just a game" when it could have been a lot more with the fairly innovative approach that they used for the features. It's a shame that they didn't see fit to do more with this particular title since it really seems like there's a ton of untapped potential in it.
Overall, players who like gameplay-oriented titles will get a lot out of this game, and those who don't most likely won't because the visual appeal is next to nonexistent. While they definitely get props for having the bonus symbols work out the way they do and having the free spins feature triggered by collecting bonus symbols, we hate how the end product actually looks and feels so cheap.
