The Indiana Jones movies were some of the most popular films of all time, and Indiana Jane (and the Golden Tombs of Katun) is a game that looks to take advantage of certain plays on the theme of those movies with a female protagonist in place of the popular character played by Harrison Ford. This game has a fun theme with a number of ways to win and a balanced pay table that gives it a medium overall volatility.
Game Format
The format of this title uses five reels and three rows with 25 paylines. As normal as this format is, Realtime Gaming likes to use it anyway because it provides a firm foundation for the game instead of trying to go off of the rails with atypical formats that haven't been proven for years like this one has. Coins range from $0.01 to $5.00 apiece with plenty of denominations to choose from, and this is largely by design since players can only play with a single coin on each payline. While you could play with fewer than 25 paylines if you really wanted to, we don't recommend it since it will lower the overall RTP of the game. The minimum bet per spin is $0.25, and the maximum is a whooping $125.
Highest Payouts
There are wild symbols in this game, but they don't show up on every reel. This means that players will not be able to get winning combinations consisting only of wilds. However, it does offer a 2x multiplier to any win that uses at least one of these wilds in the winning combination, and that adds a good amount of value to the game.
The highest payout in the regular game is won with Indiana Jane herself, like most slots fans would figure. You can get a 5,000x payout for five of this beauty, as long as at least one wild is used in the combination. Otherwise, you'll get the second-largest regular win in the game of 2,500x. There's another way to earn 2,500x with five of her assistant with at least one wild, and without the wild, it pays 1,250x. Five of the jewel emblem pays 750x (1,500x with a wild), and you can also earn 1,000x for four of the assistant (with a wild) or five of the digging tools (with a wild). Without the wilds, each of these two winning combinations pay 500x apiece.
Lower Wins
Something worth noting about this game is that even the low-paying symbols have reasonably high wins for five of a kind. The purple A symbol pays 250x (500x with a wild), as an example. With the orange K, the yellow Q and the blue J, the payout is 150x, but that doubles to 300x if a wild is used to help make the winning combination. There's also a 100x win for five of the red 10 or green 9, and that becomes 200x with at least one wild.
There are two symbols that pay for just two of a kind on an activated payline. Those symbols are Indiana Jane and the green 9 symbol, and both pay 2x for that.
Scatters and the Bonus Feature
There is a green statue scatter symbol that shows up on the first, third and fifth reels. When all three show up at the same time, players get a payout of five times the total bet size, which is like a line bet win of 125x. However, three of them also trigger the Secret Tomb Bonus Feature.
Here's how this feature works. First, players will pick from the three scatters on the screen to show how many picks they'll get during the feature. Then, a second screen will appear with a number of spheres, and you'll get to choose however many spheres you earned from your pick. Players start with three free spins and a multiplier of 2x, but both of these increase with each sphere pick. Finally, the free spins are played through with the earned multiplier.
Our Thoughts
Indiana Jane is easily a game that Realtime Gaming could have blown off and made into a very generic experience for the players. However, the bonus feature is fairly atypical, and it really fits in perfectly with the theme, especially if you've ever seen the Indiana Jones movies. Between that and the wild multipliers, this game has a fairly high-paced gameplay with a medium volatility, and that's a good mix for players who like action without overwhelming swings that come with some titles. Add in a minor progressive jackpot that always pays out at least $1,000 on random spins, and players have the combination for a pretty decent game.
