Graphics and gameplay are the two key parts of any online slot, and the Golden Book slot by Amatic Industries is pretty reasonable on both. It's not going to win any awards for the best graphics out there, but they're more than sufficient with a fun Arabian theme. On the gameplay side, however, there are tons of ways to win on each spin, and the feature set and pay table bring everything together to give players a solid experience.
An Exciting Format
The format of this title is fairly rare, but it's based on the popular all-ways setup. There are four symbols on the first, third and fifth reels, and you'll find three symbols on the second and fourth. This lends itself to you having 576 ways to win on every single spin, and that means the gameplay is completely full of action.. Betting can range from $0.10 to $100 per turn, and wins are based on a multiple of your total amount wagered.
Green and Gold Wild Symbol
All five reels give you access to a wild symbol. It has a golden border around it with a regal green background and "Wild" spelled out in a Gothic style of font in golden letters. This symbol does not substitute for the scatter, which we'll talk about down below. However, it does substitute for everything else. Five of a kind of this wild gives you the second-largest win you can score in this game at 250x. Four gets you 50x, and three of a kind of this wild symbol is worth 25x. These are pretty reasonable payouts.
Scattered Golden Book Symbol
The symbol of a golden book with red and blue decorations on it is the scatter. It's actually the most important symbol in the game, which some players wouldn't expect since it's usually the wild symbol in video slots. However, this symbol actually has better payouts than the wild or any other symbol in the game.
Five of a kind of the scattered golden book symbol gets you 500x. You can also score 100x for four of them, and the win for three of a kind is 20x. What's really cool about this book symbol is that it pays no matter where it appears on the reels, so it doesn't have to show up from left to right on the reels like the rest of the symbols do.
Free Spins Bonus Round
The scatters also pack extra value because they are responsible for activating the free spins bonus feature. You'll be given 10 free spins whenever you get three or more of them located anywhere on the game board, and you can actually re-trigger the feature by getting at least three again, and this will add an additional 10 free spins to your total. This is a pretty straightforward bonus feature, but with so many ways to win, it's particularly valuable.
Important Symbols and Payouts
First up in the regular symbols is the symbol of a woman's eyes with a blue headdress. She pays 250x for five of a kind, and her payouts overall are the same as the wild symbol. Next up is the symbol of a man with a beard who is also wearing a blue headdress, and he gives you 100x when you line up five of a kind. These are pretty reasonable pays considering they make up the top portion of the regular pay table in a game with a low volatility, along with the 500x top pay for five scatters.
Along the middle of the pay structure are four symbols across two pay levels. The tiger gets you 75x for five of a kind, and you can also pick up 75x for five of the white palace. The purple flower is worth 50x for five, and the golden boat also gets you a 50x prize when you line up five on the reels.
Finally, you have the card rank symbols. The red A, yellow Y, purple Q and green J all pay out the same wins of 5x for five of a kind, 2x for four of a kind and 1x for three of a kind.
In Summary
With the Golden Book slot by Amatic Industries, you get reasonable graphics with reasonable gameplay but with nothing that stands out as being particularly awesome. This is the kind of game that we could take or leave, but some players will really enjoy the extra ways to win combined with the tremendous scatter wins. The extra value from the wild with so many ways to get paid on the larger reels on the first, third and fifth columns also helps to drive the gameplay a bit as well.
Unfortunately, it doesn't really stand out that much outside of its atypical format. Because of that, we don't know that a ton of players are going to find this title to have a ton of replay value.
