It can sometimes seem like there are only so many features or gameplay dynamics that can be invented for a given format. When it comes to traditional video slots, this means that over time, it can seem like everything that can be done with a slot has been done already. BetSoft is good when it comes to creating new dynamics and new ways to use established ones, and you can see that play out in the Yak Yeti and Roll video slot.

You'll see a fun Eskimo on the left-hand side of the reels being pulled by a yeti on what looks like some type of bicycle, and that's a hilarious basis for a title. The reels are offset somewhat to the right, and you'll see an arctic landscape covered in snow behind the reels as a result. The graphics are decorative and stand out from other slots that use a snow-based visual motif.

Game Layout

This slot has a format that's actually pretty common. There are five reels, three rows and 20 paylines. These lines pay out from the leftmost side towards the rightmost side only, and while that might sound like it's a bit boring, what you'll see below is that this is the basis for a very strong gameplay experience because it's so rock solid.

To pick your bet size, you'll actually just choose between various total wagers. This game simplifies things in two ways. First, you can't change how many paylines are activated, so there are always 20 paylines. Second, you don't have to worry about line bet wagers and wins since all payouts are based on multiples of the total amount that you have wagered in the game. The minimum is $0.20 per spin, and the maximum is $20 with a number of options in between.

Cascade Feature

A significant portion of the gameplay and the distribution of the rest of the features all come through the cascade feature. The way this feature works is similar to how you may have seen it in other games. The basic idea is that winning combinations explode to allow new symbols to fall into place for what amounts to a free version of a re-spin. This can continue over and over as long as you keep getting more winning combinations. However, the twist for this slot is that you can generate other features based on how many cascades you get in a row off of a regular paid spin.

Instant Wins

Players can earn instant wins if they get enough cascades. A payout of 2x is yours for two cascades, and you can win a payout of 200x for 17 or more cascades as well. While these might not seem like they will hit all that often, getting two cascades isn't that difficult or unlikely, and it pays out twice the amount of your total wager.

Cascade Multipliers

You get multipliers on your wins with the cascade multipliers. You'll earn a 2x multiplier with three cascades and a 3x multiplier with six of them. This increases to 5x with 12 cascades, and the multiplier maxes out at 15x for 15 cascades, which is obviously a huge payout waiting to happen.

Free Spins Mode

Finally, there's a free spins mode that you can earn if you get at least seven cascades in a row. You'll start with eight free spins, and you'll get more depending on how many more cascades you get with a maximum of 18. From there, you can get additional multipliers of +1 at 13 cascades and an additional +2 with 16 cascades. What's more is that these multiply by the cascade multipliers that happen inside of the free spins mode to give you opportunities for some really massive payouts.

Other Wins and Prizes

Wild yeti symbols appear on the middle three reels but don't have their own wins. The scattered Eskimo symbol pays for two of a kind anywhere on the game board and gets you 12.5x (multiplied by your whole wager) for five of a kind.

Players can also score 7.5x or 5x for five of the dog or deer symbols, respectively. The igloo is worth 2.5x, and five of the sled pays 2x. The mittens then give you 1.5x for five of a kind combinations.

Card rank symbols have lower wins with 0.75x being given for five of the A or K. The Q, J and 10 symbols each give you 0.5x wins as well.

Overview

What stands out about the Yak Yeti and Roll slot is that players have their experience center largely around the cascade feature, and that game dynamic opens up the door for all of the other main features in this game. We can't remember many games that have used this sort of idea for awarding features at all, especially on the level that this title takes it, and we like how BetSoft stepped outside of the box along those lines.
