The layout of this game is very easy to understand with five reels and three rows. The single most important feature in this game is the free spins round, but there are actually five different free spins bonus features you can get. You trigger the bonus by getting three of the free spins symbols on the last three reels at the same time. Wild Symbols
There are three types of wild symbols in this game. The one you'll see the most of is the expanding wild because it appears in the regular game. Whenever you get one, it'll always expand to give you a full reel of wilds if doing so will give you an extra payout. You'll also be able to see colossal wilds, which cover several spaces, and random wilds, which appear after your spin is finished, during their respective free spin features. These last two do not show up in the regular game.
The Eight Regular Symbols
The family of four makes up the top half of the symbol set in Scruffy Duck. The prize is 400x for five of the dad duck, and that's the top pay in the game. You can pick up 250x or 200x for five of the mom duck or the teenager duck, respectively, and the pay drops down to 150x for five of the little duck with the hat and the lollipop. It's interesting to note that these four symbols have their own color backgrounds to make them stand out even more, so the dad is a pink/purple shade, the mom is yellow, the teen is green and the kid is blue.
When you jump down to the final four symbols, which are all card ranks hatching out of eggs, you'll notice that the same set of four colors are used to mark the four symbols in order. This means you have a red A, which pays 70x, and a yellow K, which gives you a little less at the 60x level. Pays of 50x and 40x are yours with five of the green Q or five of the blue J, accordingly.
It's important to note at this point that, aside from the wilds and the bonus symbol to get the free spins, there are only eight regular-paying symbols in the game. This is important because it helps you to get winning combinations much more easily than you would in a game with 15 paying symbols, for example.
In Summary
Net Entertainment's approach with this family of ducks is an interesting one in that we can't remember ever seeing something quite like it on the thematic side. The free spins feature has some depth to it as well with five different feature sets, and the expanding wilds give you a bit more on the hit-rate side than you'd normally see. Combine that with the limited number of paying symbols, and you get a high hit-rate title with a lower volatility and an atypical theme. There is a bit of value caught up in the bonus feature, but overall, the game has a very reasonable volatility, and it's a title that we think many players will enjoy.
