Frogged

If you grew up in the 1980s, then you most likely knew about the video game Frogger. This game was considered a classic almost from the time it was released, and Rival Gaming has created a slot called Frogged that's a fun throwback to that title. It features fun pixelated-like graphics on some symbols that reflect the graphics of the video games of the time, and it has a number of fun features that add action to the game. While you might not have to jump across lanes of traffic to win in this game, there are definitely elements of the original game found in this slot.

Game Layout

The slot uses five reels with three rows and 20 paylines of action. Coin sizes range from $0.01 to $0.25 each, which is normal for Rival slots, but don't think that means that you're not going to have larger betting options. You can still bet anywhere from one to ten coins per payline, so even though the minimum bet size is just $0.20 per spin, your maximum bet size is a whooping $50 per spin, so even high rollers will have bet sizes that they're comfortable with for getting in on the action.

Regular Payouts

The regular payouts in this game are for the stylized A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 symbols. They are done in a pixelated sort of style that perfectly captures the visual style of that era of video games. You'll score 100x for five of the A, 60x for five K's, 50x for five of the Q or five of the J, and it's 40x for five of the 10 or the 9 symbol. The key thing to realize about these symbols is that they show up the most during the regular game.

High End Payouts and Wilds

The frog symbol shows up on all reels, and it's a vertically expanding wild. If you get the frog and it can be used as a part of a winning combination, then it will expand to cover the symbols above it as it hops one spot at a time leaving wild symbols. These wilds make it easier to get wins that will definitely add up over time, especially multi-line wins that stack up because of the expanding wilds.

The race car probably hits the frog the fastest, so it gets the largest regular payout of 750x for five of a kind. The truck probably hits it the hardest, and that will get you a 325x win if you get five of a kind. Five of the bus earns 200x, and five of the blue car pays out 150x.

Scatters and Free Spins

The bulldozer symbol is the scatter in this game. You'll get 10 times your total bet for five, three times your total bet for four and one times your total bet for three of a kind. Three or more triggers a set of 7 free spins. The wilds give your wins a 2x multiplier during the free spins.

However, if you pick up three or more bulldozers during those free spins, you'll get taken to the River Rapids bonus round, which players of the original Frogger will recognize as being the second half of the game screen that you get to once you've gotten past all of the traffic.

During this feature, there are five new symbols. The sticky wild fly stays on screen and triggers re-spins to give you extra wins when you get them. You'll also gain access to the alligator that pays 1,000x, which is appropriate since it was the most difficult animal to maneuver in the original game. Five of the snake earns 400x, five turtles gets you 250x, and five of the iconic log that you would have to navigate with your frog in the video game earns 150x. It's worth noting that both the alligator and snake pay for only two of a kind, and they're the only symbols to do so in the game.

Overview

Rival Gaming is known for producing games that are normally adequate but that rarely blow us away. As a child of the 80s, however, I feel like the visual theme and soundtrack of Frogged is completely and totally awesome. This is definitely up there as one of the best games that Rival has put together before the graphics are crisp, they perfectly match the theme, and the multiple stages of the slot match up exactly with the original parts of the stages in the video game. If you were ever a fan of Frogger, then you owe it to yourself to try this game. If you didn't play Frogger, then you'll still have a lot to enjoy in this game with the hilarious intro movie and the frequent payouts.
