Yggdrasil Gaming is no stranger to making games that have magical motifs in them, and the Ozwin's Jackpots slot falls into that camp. It uses an absolutely gorgeous style of hand-drawn graphics with a dark, fantasy forest theme and beautiful symbols. It's one of their best-looking games, and that's saying something since most of their titles look really good to begin with. The multiple jackpots that this game has available is a pretty big deal as well.

Slot Layout

The most popular video slot format of all time is what's used in this game, and it has five reels with three rows, and there are 20 paylines. The paylines are always on, and you can't adjust them (not that you would want to since that typically lowers the RTP of the slot). You can pick coin values per payline that correspond to total bet sizes in the display right beside of the control, and you can basically wager between $0.20 and $40 per turn. Unless you're a super high roller, you won't have any issues with finding bet sizes that fit something that works for you with this range.

Spellbook Bonus Feature

The spellbook symbol is a bonus symbol, and three or more will get you entry into the spellbook bonus feature. However, four or more will get you a payout as well with four symbols paying 1,000x and five giving you 10,000x. Moreover, you will have a chance to open as many as 18 spellbooks during this feature. You'll get coins for instant payouts, crystals that add to your collection for the jackpots or an evil spell, which ends the bonus feature. It's essentially random, but you want to avoid the evil spell for as long as possible.

Jackpot Free Spins Mode

There are two different ways to make your way into the jackpot free spins mode. The first way is by getting the crystals. When you pick up a crystal on a reel, it's added to the total at the top of the reel. Get five collected on the same reel to get 10 free spins plus one orb. This makes it a little easier to get a jackpot than the other way, which is based on the free spins symbol.

The free spins symbol is the other way to get into the free spins mode. Three or more anywhere on the reels gives you a set of 10 free spins. Much like the spellbook symbol, you can earn 1,000x for four of this symbol or 10,000x for five of them.

During this feature, all of the winning payouts are multiplied by a factor of three, and that's a pretty substantial extra. However, if you collect five of the same orb during this bonus mode, then you'll win one of the five different jackpots. Those jackpots, in order of size, are novice, apprentice, mystic, wizard and archmage.

Top-level Symbols

The top-paying regular symbol is the owl. It's white on a red background, and it stands out in a major way. Five of a kind gives you a large 4,000x payout. You can also pick up a 2,000x win for a five-of-a-kind combination of Ozwin himself with black hair on a purple background. The compass-looking symbol in gold on a green background is worth 1,000x for five, and it drops down to the 750x level for five of the blue potion on a blue background.

Low-tier Payouts

Something we will rag on software companies over day-in and day-out is being lazy when it comes to the symbol sets they use, particularly for low-level symbols. In this game, Yggdrasil avoided using card rank symbols, which would have killed how beautiful this title is, and we commend them for that decision.

Instead, you get great-looking gems in the shape of the four card ranks. The red heart pays 200x for five of a kind, and five of the purple spade earns 175x. You can get 150x for the green club when you line up five on a payline, and five of the pink diamond pays 125x. These are balanced payouts for the bottom end of the pay table, and they're actually a bit larger than average for video slots.

In Summary

The thing about the Ozwin's Jackpots slot by Yggdrasil Gaming is that it's centered around five different progressive jackpots. With that having been said, there are some pretty good static jackpots in it as well, and this helps to give the game a pretty high volatility. There aren't many titles by this company with a volatility this high, so if you play a lot of their games, you'll want to make sure to pick out a smaller bet size than what you'd typically use. Aside from that, there's really nothing to complain about with this slot, and it's a really good game on every level.
