If you're looking for something sweet to get you excited, the Cake Valley slot by Habanero will definitely do that. It looks like sweets are raining from the sky with this game's 3D graphics overlooking a fairy tale world where it looks like sweets and candy are growing on trees. This game's visual appeal is interesting, but some players may find it difficult to concentrate because of all of the great-looking food on the screen.

Game Format

The layout of this slot uses five reels and three rows, and you'll have 243 ways to win on each spin. This works because all regular symbols are left-to-right scatters that pay based on showing up on consecutive reels. It doesn't matter which position they appear in on those reels as long as they show up starting from the leftmost reel.

Gameplay is based on wagering 25 coins per spin, and all of your winnings are based on a multiple of your entire bet. You can wager multiples of 25 coins on each spin up to 250 per turn, and the coins can be set from $0.01 to $20 each. It's clear that there's a huge range of bet sizes available here, but the minimum size is $0.25 per spin. All of the winning payouts that we describe in this review will be based on a multiple of your bet size.

Three Jelly Modes

In the top-right corner of the screen, you'll see a symbol that you can click to cycle through three different game modes. These three modes are red, yellow and green, and they dictate how the gameplay works for the features. You can pick any that you want between the three because they all have the same RTP, but they can produce different styles of play. Based on what you prefer as an individual, you'll want to pick the game mode that makes the most sense for you.

Green Jelly Mode

With the green jelly mode, you'll see two green jelly squares in the background of the second and fourth reel. They'll move up and down each spin, and you'll be given a set of 15 free spins if you get matching symbols to show up on those two jellies. If you get the wild to appear, that counts as well. The green jelly symbols do not move during these free spins, but if you don't get any left-to-right wins during the free spins, and there are right-to-left payouts available, then they are awarded along with an incredible 8x multiplier.

Yellow Jelly Mode

When you play the yellow jelly mode, there are three jellies on the middle three rows. Get the same symbol or wilds on all three for a set of 12 free spins. On spins without left-to-right wins, you're paid right-to-left wins with a 5x multiplier. This is a pretty big boost to the payouts.

Red Jelly Mode

This is much like the other two modes, but there are four jelly symbols instead. You'll get 8 free spins with matching symbols on those spots, and the multiplier is 3x during the free spins on right-to-left payouts for the spins where you get no left-to-right wins at all.

Payouts and Wins

The wild symbol is a set of purple balloons, and they get 400x for five of a kind. Five of the chef is worth 300x, and five of the pie earns players 250x. You can win 200x for five of the tan pastry with chocolate sauce, and five of the ice cream cone is worth 150x.

Five more symbols with goodies make up the bottom half of the pay table. You can get 90x for five of the cupcake or 60x for five of the gelatin with chocolate sauce. The ice cream sandwich is worth 50x, and the jelly donut gets you 40x. The pink donut with white powered sugar is worth a 30x win.

We have to give it to Habanero Systems for not taking the easy way out with generic symbols like the card ranks that we see super often in video slots. Every single symbol looks like a ton of work was put into it, and that's something that we would definitely like to see more of from other companies.

Our Thoughts

First off, this game has a much different look than just about any other slot we've ever seen. The Cake Valley slot's symbol set is very rich and colorful with 3D graphics. It can be a little difficult to see which symbols show up where because there are no marked reels, and the symbols run into the background a bit, but it's not a major issue.

On the gameplay side, the three jelly modes is a way of handling bonus features that we've never seen before, and the free spins modes get extra value in ways we've never seen before as well. That makes it stand out from a gameplay perspective, and we think that it's an approach that a lot of players will like.
