Whenever you see a game that has a lot of gold built into its theme, you can tell that it's going to be all about getting you a lot of nice prizes. That's the case with the Gold King video slot, a title presented by Play'n Go. They have built this slot around the theme of King Midas, a man who gained the ability to turn anything he touched to gold. However, he couldn't turn this power off, and things took a turn for the worse whenever he went to touch his daughter.
Slot Format and Layout
To give players a solid foundation for the experience, you have five horizontal reels, three vertical rows and a total of 20 paylines available here. With that having been said, the paylines do not change in number, and there's no option to play with fewer than the 20 lines that are always activated. Along with this, the minimum bet size is $0.20, based on wagering $0.01 per line. You can also bet as much as $200 per turn, and that puts $10 on each of the paylines. A number of different betting options are available between those two extremes as well.
Wild Golden Roses
To give players more chances to get wins than they would have otherwise gotten, there are rose symbols in this game. They aren't completely gold, which indicates that they are perhaps in the process of changing, but the symbol looks gorgeous and stands out in a way that you know it's an important part of the game.
You can get some pretty strong payouts with this symbol on its own. Five of a kind pays out 125 times your total wager, and you can make it 12.5x if you get four on a line. Three of a kind and two of a kind combinations pay out 2.5x and 0.5x, all of which are multiplied by the overall wager and not by the bet placed per line. This is an important distinction because it's the same for all of the bets we talk about in this game because of how Play'n Go decided to structure the wagers, so your wins will increase or decrease proportionately to how much you bet.
Super Spins Bonus Mode
When you pick up at least three of the King Midas scatter symbol, you get taken to a different mode where the symbols behave differently for 10 free spins. For one, two or three scatters on the reels during this mode, two, four or 10 extra spins will be added to the total with no maximum to how many free turns you can get during this bonus feature.
The wild rose symbol appears stacked at least six high in this mode, and the top-tier symbols also appear stacked in a way in that they always cover the entire reel whenever they appear. Add that to the fact that the lower-level card rank symbols will always show up in stacks of eight, and you get lots of ways to get multi-line wins.
Randomized Super Stacks Feature
When you're in the regular game mode and not in the free spins mode, you'll get a randomized super stacks feature. The way this works is that on every single spin, one of the symbols will be chosen at random, and it will become super stacked with 12-high stacks. This feature, like the extras found during the free spins mode, are all designed to make it easier to get multi-line wins. This is a very stylistic slot in the sense that the gameplay of both game modes are largely centered around stacked symbols.
You can also get a golden spins feature in which the first, third and fifth reels are all stacked with the same Super Stacked symbol listed above. Again, this obviously makes it a lot easier to get winning combinations.
Payouts and Prizes
There are three mid-level symbols that have a gold motif. You can get a 25x prize when you get five of the golden crown with the card suits on it, and the purple gem surrounded by gold on a green square earns you 18.75x as well. The payout for the stacks of gold bars is 12.5x for five on a line too.
Moving down to the card rank symbols, all of which are gold and platinum in this game, you'll pick up a 5x win for five of a kind of the A or K symbols. You can also win 3.75x with five of a kind of the Q, and you'll make it 2.5x for five of the J or 10.
The gameplay style of the Gold King slot is different than anything we've really seen before in terms of Play'n Go centering it around different types of stacked and expanding symbol features. The pay table is balanced as well, and the gold motif works well with the King Midas theme. Overall, it's a good game that will appear to many players, though some may find it a bit bland from a visual standpoint.
