Over the years, we've seen a lot of different movies and television shows that center around a love triangle involving vampires. The typical story is two male vampires (or other supernatural creatures) competing for the love of a female. That exactly the theme and story behind Realtime Gaming's Eternal Love slot, and with that comes a dark theme, a matching soundtrack and a gritty overall feel. Everything centers around the central theme in this game, but the gameplay itself is also solid.

Format of This Game

Realtime Gaming has used the five-reel, three-row format with 243 ways to win. This is a bit different than traditional payline layouts because it turns every simple into a virtual scatter symbol that has to line up on reels starting from the left and going to the right with no "gaps" of reels that do not have the symbol. Bets start at $0.30 per spin and go up to an incredible $150 per spin. There are also three different game speed options and an autoplay feature with a lot of ways to customize how the autoplay works.

The Wild Symbol

One of the symbols that drives the gameplay more than any other in this game is the Eternal Love logo. It's a wild symbol, but it also appears stacked on the second and fourth reels only. Even though this wild only appears on two reels, it still offers a lot of value for two reasons.

First, the stacked nature of the wild means that you get even more value than usual thanks to the 243-ways format that this game uses. Second, it offers a random multiplier on wins that use it as high as 3x. This is just like getting extra payouts that you wouldn't have received otherwise when you get the multiplier on your wins, and it can turn even small payouts into sizable scores.

Scatter Wins

Another important source of value is the scatter symbol. In this game, there's a gold coin with writing around the outside edge and two people facing each other in the center, and it appears on all reels. This is the scatter, and it pays for two or more located anywhere on the reels. This is the only symbol that doesn't have to appear starting at the left reel and working towards the right to get paid.

Two of these earns a 1x win, and three earns a 2x win. A payout of 25x is given for four of a kind, and you'll pick up a solid 200x payout for five. These wins are multiplied by your total bet, so you're getting the equivalent of a 6,000x line payout for five scatters, which is by far the largest win available in the entire game.

Regular Wins

Regular wins in this game are based on the equivalent of line bets as if you were playing for 30 coins. If you were playing for $0.30 per spin, for instance, your equivalent coin size would be $0.01, and that would be what these regular wins are multiplied by.

At the top end of the pay scale is the woman vampire, and five of her gets you a 1,000x base win that can go as high as 3,000x if you use the wild multipliers. The vampire in blue earns 500x (as high as 1,500x), and the one in red will get you 250x (up to 750x, accordingly). The blue gem and red ring symbols both pay 125x apiece, and these payouts can be worth up to 375x for five of a kind if you get multipliers.

Unlike the rest of the non-scatter symbols in the game, the three vampires and two jewelry symbols can give you wins for getting just two or more symbols lined up. The remainder of the symbols in the game are the A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 symbols posted up on headstones, which fits this game's theme and feel perfectly. The A, K and Q pay 100x for five, and the J, 10 and 9 pay 75x for five of a kind.

Bonus Feature: Free Spins

If you hit three or more of the scattered coin symbol, then you get a set of 10 free spins. You'll be given an extra bonus win worth up to 100 times your total bet as well at the end of the round. You can also score extra free spins if you don't win enough in the first 10 thanks to the Extended Life Feature, so you're guaranteed to get a pretty good payout if you trigger this bonus round.

The Bottom Line

This game's theme is very similar to Microgaming's Immortal Romance that came out a number of years ago, and while the bonus feature isn't a complete copycat job, it's definitely got some similarities. With that having been said, the graphics and soundtrack are still really good, and they both show that Realtime Gaming is capable of putting out games that are much better than their reputation. It's a good overall game, but some players might find it to be too similar to plenty of other titles out there in terms of gameplay values.
