If you're the type of player who has been enjoying games in the online slot genre for a while, you've most likely seen a number of games use an ocean or deep sea type of theme. That's what you'll find with FUGA Gaming's Ocean's Secret slot, and it's all about a deep sea dive where you're down on the floor of the ocean. There are some hints that this is set in Atlantis, but they don't bet you over the head with it. Instead, the graphics are set up to be solid with really good and exciting gameplay.
Format and Layout
You get a choice between two different formats in this game, and they both have the same return to player percentage. You can play with five reels, three rows and either 20 or 40 paylines. We suggest the 40-payline option because of the way the features line up, but you're welcome to go with either that you want. There really is no objective advantage one way or another.
The betting range will depend on which format you're playing with. You can bet as low as $0.01 per payline with either, so your minimum bet sizes are $0.20 and $0.40 respectively. You can also wager with coins worth up to $2.50, so there's a lot of room for a wide array of different bet sizes overall.
You'll notice that there are five numbers on the upper right-hand side of the reels, and this is an extremely important part of the game. It's tied to the avalanche feature, and here's how it works. When you get a winning combination, it's paid out, but then those winning symbols shatter to allow new symbols to fall down into place. When that happens, the multiplier increases by one (noted by the numbers on the side of the reels), and you get chances for another round of wins. This can happen repeatedly in a row on the same paid spin, and that gives you opportunities to pick up multipliers as high as 5x along with several payouts.
Crawling Octopus Wild Feature
There's a purple octopus hanging out on the top of the reels, and he'll move along back and forth, changing his position after each spin. If he is on the same reel as where a wild symbol appears, then he'll turn the whole wild reel by making that wild expand. This is a neat way to incorporate expanding wilds into the game while tying it into the theme, and we like how FUGA has done this with other aspects of their features in this slot as well.
Free Spins Feature
When you pick up at least three of the free spins symbol on the reels, you'll get free spins with better reels than usual. This feature cannot be re-triggered, but you'll be put in a position to get better shots at winning, and that's compounded by the avalanche feature and the multipliers. On top of that, you'll have one of the regular symbols become a wild for the whole feature, and you'll get multipliers as high as 4x on all of your wins that combine with the avalanche multipliers as well.
Key Symbols and Winning Combinations
The diver symbol is the highest-paying of them all. You can win 1,500x for five of a kind of this symbol, and it's the only one to pay for just two of a kind on a payline. The submarine symbol can get you 600x when you pick up five of a kind as well. It drops off only slightly to 500x for five of the shark and 400x for five of the starfish. The other fish pays 300x for five. For the card ranks, the A and K can each pay out 250x with five, and five of the Q or J pay 200x apiece.
It's important to note just how balanced this pay table is and how high even the lowest payouts in the whole game are. When you combine that with the avalanche feature and the multiple sources of multipliers in this game, then you'll really get some opportunities for huge payouts.
Ocean's Secret is FUGA Gaming's push into the deep sea sub-genre, and while it's hard to make a deep sea online slot particularly popular, they still did a pretty good job with it. The gameplay is about as exciting as you can make a game based on sitting on the bottom of the ocean watching fish swim by, and they've combined multiple layers of features, like the octopus and the free spins, to give players a fun experience.
The biggest thing we wish was different about this game is that the graphics were a bit different. They aren't low-quality by any means, but they just seem disjointed, as if they just threw together a few things that can be found underwater.
